research & their relation
to mashup

importance of creativity

1.
In today's age, where entire industries fade away every decade, it is clear that creativity will constantly be an important asset. Creativity holds a critical role for the type of divergent thinking necessary for innovation. with students especially, growing their creative capacity can make it easier for them to create original ideas, as well as exercising their critical thinking skills.

the entre purpose of mashup is to build creative thinking in young minds. and drive students to think more flexible and original.

how to improve creativity

2.
Some strategies that can be helpful for improving creativity include:

- Being open to new ideas: Openness to experience is the personality trait that is most closely correlated with creativity.

- Be persistent: Creativity is not just about sitting around waiting for inspiration to strike. Creative people spend time working to produce new things. even if they fail, continued practice builds skills that contribute to creativity.

- Make time for creativity: In addition to being persistent, you also need to devote time specifically toward creative efforts. This might mean setting aside a little time each day or each week specifically to brainstorm, practice, learn, or create.

mashup provides these strategies in a box, building flexibility, FAILURE is a learning process, and making time for creativity fun and simple

human interaction

3.
human interaction is most important especially for students these days. In today’s digital world, it can be tempting to rely more on technology and digital communication, but the benefits of human interaction cannot be replicated.

research has shown that meaningful social connections are linked to improved physical and mental health. Regular interactions with other people can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress.
Human interaction also helps to create a sense of community and belonging. Being part of a group or team can provide a feeling of safety, security, and connection leading to confidence & self-esteem in students.

mashup was designed to be a social interactive activity within classrooms in order to bring students together to collab, discuss, ideate, and overall have fun.

creative environments

4.
“In our highly distracted 21st-century digitally connected culture, retraining our minds to focus in a distraction-free environment takes conscious effort.” (Miller, D. L, 2015)

research has shown that the environment you surround yourself in, ultimately affects your mental and physical health. if you surround yourself with mess, your mind will be a mess. same thing goes for building 108, the classrooms are boring and plain, EQUIPPED with what SHOULD NOT be the only source of inspiration, computers. thus, majority of students struggle to feel inspired and motivated

the phrase "this building is uninspiring and unmotivating" has been thrown around numerous times within building 108 which is a coincidence because IT'S the creative industries building.

mashup exists to bring these missing CRUCIAL emotions back into classes by being that one physical interactive activity for students to play

effects of high screen time

5.
the reason as to why mashup is a physical ACTIVITY rather than a digital activity, is because it expects to be another source of creative building skills that does not involve sitting at a screen, which many students tend to go towards.

in addition, the effects of high screen time is something that mashup does not want for students. effects such as:

- sleep disruption
- mood swings
- and depression

Screens may always be a part of your life. but they don’t have to be the main part.

the science behind inspiration

mashup strives to inspire all

Neuroscientists have discovered that
inspiration involves a collab between
different parts of our brain.

the default mode network (DMN), which kicks in
when we daydream or let our
minds wander, plays a big role.

and

executive control network (ECN), the part of
our brain that helps us focus and make decisions.

executive control network (ECN)

their role: executive control network (ecn) when ecn is active we are in a state of high cognitive control, organising and refining the materials generated by the DMN.
this network is crucial for:

- working memory
- decision making
- and managing focused attention

Default mode network
(DMN)

their role: default mode network (dmn)dmn occurs when our minds are relaxed such as during day dreaming, introspection or imagining things.
simply, its the brain’s creative playground. where novel ideas are made without constraints of focused, goal-directed tasks.
we experience inspiration through the collaboration between the DMN and ECN. During moments of insight, these networks work together, allowing the mind to wander and explore ideas freely before bringing them into focused awareness for evaluation and implementation.
